Born in Huelva, Spain in 1971, Garrido was educated at the University of Seville. It was after graduating that Garrido often found himself drawn to exploring cities. The technological marvels and the diversity within these vibrant places fascinated him. He has been inspired by “urban” American artists, such Edward Hopper and Richard Estes, and was drawn especially to the charms of New York which provides a backdrop to much of his work. Garrido´s interest in the city´s infrastructure can be seen in all his works, from the busy “highway scenes” to the “panoramic views” taken from tall buildings.
The way he builds up the oils, layer upon layer of often quite dry paint “dragged” across the surface creates a textured finish. A few well-chosen marks translate into a passing car or touches of colour hint at a traffic light. In many works, there is a sense of a continuous motion with Garrido´s trademark and vibrant brushstrokes. His palette of cool, soft tones conveys a “Turneresque” atmosphere to this subject.
Garrido currently lives in Spain and continues to paint depictions of these living breathing cities.
Art continues to make its way, evolving in each and every one of its forms. It makes us think, it excites us, it makes us uneasy ... Sometimes we may not even understand it. But it transmits us and is there, stirring, as if it were a cake dough, our emotional thread.
Perhaps the best part of that hodgepodge is the palpable growth of a new generation of Artists that does not stop fighting and transforming themselves in their works and their emotions, as is the case of Pedro Rodríguez and his fantastic vision of Urban Art.
Pedro Rodríguez was born on May 26, 1971. Born in Huelva, his curiosity for Art was palpable from an early age. An active and curious person, moved by the beauty of culture, he graduated in Fine Arts in 1998 from the University of Fine Arts in Seville, specializing in Painting.
His tour of the national and international territory was more than remarkable, and his vision of Urban Art obtained a great acceptance. But how does Pedro Rodríguez see those landscapes? What makes them so special? Perhaps we should look at his work a little more closely. The expression in his paintings of the streets and avenues, of life between hours, of the stillness and silence of the sidewalks under the frantic rhythm of our steps, the noise and the calm becoming accomplices in the same canvas.
This is the work of Pedro Rodríguez, capable of making us smell the asphalt and smoke within each of his compositions, making us participate in his vision as if we were contemplating rain through a glass that does not get wet.
Urban Art begins to fade, to guide our vision from figuration to the most controversial abstraction. A subjective melancholy that radiates another type of beauty while still bearing his signature in each stroke and brushstroke.
The new techniques that he uses, such as treated paper (closer to abstraction), invites us to work on our imagination and artistic training as visionaries of his paintings. The landscape begins as the first requiem of our dreams, and the teleportation in each of his works makes it clear that Pedro is an Artist who will continue to surprise us with each change in the vision of his Art.
Thanks to his professionalism and closeness, today we can see in these lines some of his new works that, without a doubt, will not leave anyone indifferent.
At ease and happy with his new concept, Pedro reveals his own transformation as an Artist. A restlessness of a mind that never ceases to renew itself and offer, in each of his paintings, a perception of the new melancholy and the new smell of asphalt and smoke that so dazzles us in his paintings.
