Lily SO 蘇婉琪
ARTWORKS | NEWS
A self-taught artist born in Hong Kong, Lily So loves nature and people passionately. She embraces human emotions in their full immensity, articulating them through art and sharing them with others. Since discovering art, she has been painting her daily life through an endless cycle of ups and downs. Essentially, art allows her to search for inner peace. Art becomes the essence of her life and an integral means of self-expression.
Lily used to hide all negativity from others and herself, but she realised that her dark side was just as valuable as her bright side; both of which she poured onto the canvas, raw and unfiltered. Whether painful or powerful, she hopes her art inspires others to be honest with themselves and stand up for the values they believe in.
Her most recent work also embodies nature. The originality in the patterned artwork is actually a return to the universal origin, to the simplicity of the earliest solutions. In other words, to the natural world created by God. She applied textual form to her creations because such a meditative process of writing creates tremendous harmony and power. At the same time, she also created intense patterns filled with overflowing detail. The pattern is an expression of her own interest in the power struggle that takes place every day in our environment and in nature. The impermanence of nature also represents our inner souls, which she believes should be nurtured and protected.
