Chan Sui-ying, Zaffer (b.1991, Hong Kong), graduated from the Fine Arts Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014 and completed her Master's program in the same department in 2017, focusing on the relationship between ink paper artworks and traditional mounting techniques. After completing a master's program in cultural heritage conservation in Taiwan, she returned to Hong Kong to engage in art restoration and ink painting creation.
Chen excels in capturing delicate emotions and the natural phenomena between seasons. Through associative descriptions and artistic arrangements, she portrays ambiguous relationships and sentiments, creating ink landscapes that encompass both painted scenes and imagined contexts. She incorporates the art of mounting into her creations, breaking the boundaries of two-dimensional paper artworks. Chan has received several awards, including the Wucius Wong Modern Ink Painting Award Hong Kong, the Chinese Meticulous Painting Association Creative Award and the Madam Jan Yun-bor Memorial Awards for Chinese Painting and Calligraphy.
She has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and overseas, with her works predominantly held in private collections.
